Background

Gampaha Siddhayurveda Vidyalaya was established on 19 July 1929 which is established as a government incorporated body in 1982. The initial library collection enriched with the private library collections donated by Pandit G.P. Wickramarachchi, Dr. Leelaratne Weerasinghe, the principal of the Vidyalaya, Pranacharya D. M. Jayasinghe and the Department of Ayurveda. The library collections consist of books in Sanskrit, Vanga and Hindi and periodicals and ola-leaf manuscripts. The library was housed in a lecture hall which is shifted to the multi-purpose building of the institute in 1991. The library was shifted to the new building in 2011 which is named as Pandit G.P. Wickramarachchi Memorial Library.

The main objectives of this Library include providing resources necessary for the three main pillars of the university: teaching, learning and research in Ayurveda, Indigenous Medicine, Medical Sciences, Health Science and other related disciplines. The Library is committed to providing excellent and innovative library services and products; it offers electronic resources with remote access and automate library functions enabling efficient and effective library services for the benefit of the entire University community.
